LO4 .1.2.3: Be able to record cinematic footage

PASS:

for the camera and lighting settings we had ensured that are ISO was lower since we were in an open area with lots of well lit area so that the overall footage was made to be an exceptive brightness. If the ISO was to be more sensitive than the footage we have would be overly bright making the quality of the footage lower. We had a mixture of natural light and attached lighting to the camera. On camera lighting was then used so when close ups were done so that the quality of our lighting remained higher quality. Having it so that the quality of our lighting and the setting we used on the camera are high it allows us to ensure that the film is engaging for the viewers, relating to our genre being a psychological drama. if we wanted to have specific scenes to be darker then we would ensure that our Aperture would be lower, the lowers the aperture the less light that is let into the camera, allowing us to create more tense scenes.

Settings for things such as the frame rates can be kept at 25 frames per second, for clips where we are having Campbell walk through the corridor the frame rate allows us to have the footage that runs smoothly. Using equipment such as the tripods also allows us to follow Campbell as he walks through the corridor so that it removes the shaking of the camera if we were to do it by hand, and then following him through. In some scenes we have used it hand held so that the shaking of the camera will add to the effect of tension as Campbell is walking through the corridor and making seem more chaotic as he goes through before his 'therapy session'

Camera and lighting settings make it so that the quality of the film itself is then increased, making it a better watch for the target audience. The changes in different lighting either while the filming was being done or when the film will be edited allow for the film to cause different feeling as well as different feels of tension throughout the film. The use of natural light means that the film will have more of a natural feel for the audience and make them feel as if they are following our character 'Connor' through his daily life and the vents of the day with his therapy session.

Settings help to make the cinematic footage better for the target audience as well as since it allows for the character movements to feel more dramatized, following our genre more specifically. For example in the scene where we are following Connor up the stairs the camera movements from panning across the banisters of the stairs we had changed the setting to a manual focus, allowing me during the filming process to decide when things would be coming in and out of focus. Setting for the focus also can be seen when the characters will be dissociating when the objects in the room become blurred and then unblurred adding to the effect and having our audience feel as if they are dissociating with the characters as well.

MERIT:

Our Film follows the conventions of a psychological drama short film because our short film will also be between 5 to 10 minutes long, with the narrative of short films generally being simple. In order to follow these key conventions I had ensured that our narrative was simple, following our character 'Connor' through their daily life (the dramatised documentary style) and then following them through their journey traveling through the setting of our school and then going to have a councillors meeting for their mental disorder ' Dissociated identity disorder'. In order to reflect this mental disorder the use of props had to be put in which then allowed us to focus on the camera work to then focus and un-focus on a regular basis as well as flashes in the lenses that allowed for the audience to understand the confusion and dissociation of some the characters.

Our narrative then follows the conventional narrative structure theory because the story follows how in the beginning there is no problem that needs to be resolved and then throughout the story then becomes problematic in terms of how the audience need to figure out why the character is dissociating with then in the end the audience will then figure out that the main character then had DID. The short film also then shorter which allows the target audience to feel as though they can connect with the characters more and feel as tho the story line isn't being dragged out.

The video will mostly be distributed through social media such as, YouTube where a higher volume of people can access the video since youTube is more popular. The video will also then be free to release since the video isn't being monetized, since the video is being done for educational purposes and not for profit.

The video can also then be distributed online through different types of social media, making sure that the video can be accessed at all times and by everyone. Doing this also means that more people can access the video -  as well as the video being exposed to a higher volume of our target audience.

For the marketing methods we would have to make sure that the clips we have made are edited well and run smoothly with our voice actors, as well as our script and any other sounds that we may be using in the film, making sure that if specific sounds such as clocks ticking are used or when people are talking that the screen will cut to different scenes, in order to match the visuals to the sound.

The lighting and frame rate was sued for the film conventions then the lighting matches the genre because a documentary or drama show will then have normal natural lighting, this allows the target audience to feel as if the film shows more of a realistic point of view which will make the audience feel as though they can have more of an attachment with the film and the characters. For the frame rate we had kept it at 25 frames per second because there was no need to adjust it because of the lack of action scenes that are in our short film

DISTINCTION:

The textual analysis means that I will be analysing the rushes that I have and will be analysing the mese-en-scene elements whithin them as well as the different editing techiques we will be using, and what all this means for the target audience and how it fits into our selected genre.

Main mese-en-scenes elements that we focused on would the setting of our short film - following the main character Connor walking up stairs and through corridors and then reaching his final destination of the councillors room. Whithin this time I had also focused on the different types of shots i has used, with establishoing shots to not only introduce our main character but also to intorduce the setting, the importance of using everyday settings allows for the target audience to be able to feel as if they can relate with our characters.

The beginning of our short film can be linked to Steve Neales reptition and difference theory because the film is intially started with a clock, with the ticking to be the main focus to emphaise to the target audoence the passing of time - with the end of the shrt film also finsihing with the clock, which will also give our taregt audience the feeling that the therapy sessions are an everyday thing or a common task. As well as the narrative having a conventional structure meaning that the narrative will have an enigma, which is when the voices will start as well as the dissociation starts to occur which will evoke questions for the audience and then by the end of the short film when the clipboard is reveaked to the audince that Connor has got DID that the enigma will then be resolved. But then will also have an un-conventional story due to the loop in narrative and the flashing between different scenes which can be linked to Todorovs theory.  With the un-conventional narrative helping the audience to see the passing of time as well as the confusion or change in mental state for Connor

Along with the proximetrics of the characters and Pam Cooks theory of Cause and Effect all emphasising to the audience the types of relationship the characters have with each other. The proximetrics of the characters initally being emmidiatley sitting and then once is getting more comfortable throught the session then changes thier seating arranngments. This can also be linked to how Connors mental state is constantly conflicting itself or feeling anxious and not being able to remain calm and is on edge -  as well as the change in promimetrics also shows the passing of time. With Cause and Effect taking place when the therapist will then continue their usual questions, with more details being revealed to the audience as the more questions are being asked and answered. Towards the end of the short film the therapist will then start to ask more 'triggering' questions which, to avoid triggering the audinece because of the topics that they may be askig about we have ensure that the audio will be adjuseted during editing. The audio will begin to fase into white nosie or ringing (simular to when peoples ear ring) to cancel out what the therpist would be saying, making the audeince sympathise with Connor and wil then start to reveal Connor to start dissociating and the voices will start -  which will be dubbed audio that will be added during the editing process. So the cause being the therapist asking questions and the effect being Connor beginning to dissociate, forcing the entrance of the voices (alters).

Specific clips such as where Connor will be dissociating where the camera will be manualy focused zooming in and out create meaning because it builds the connection to their mental disorder and the target audience as well as their importance to empahsise that clips will be dramatised for the target audience.

Editing techniques will be done in order to make sure that our film will fit into the psycological drama genre, this will be done by adding a blue light or editing the light in some of our clips to help with continuety as well as to make the overall feel of the film to be a more cold for the target audience the anxiety that Connor may be feeling, or the feeling of the mundane everyday reacurring tasks and their dullness.
